BBC Sport has crowned Emma Raducanu as the sports personality of the year, beating other nominees; Tom Daley and Adam Peaty at the Abu Dhabi event.
The 19-year-old British tennis player received the award remotely as she was recovering after testing positive for Covid-19.
“It’s such an honor just to be amongst these nominees, to win … it’s pretty amazing to me. I watched this growing up, so I’m really happy to join the past winners and I’m really happy for British tennis too. This past year has been absolutely insane,” she said.
Raducanu is the current United States Open champion, and the first British woman to win a Grand Slam singles title since Virginia Wade in the 1977 Wimbledon Championships.
