A recently completed study in Belgian has revealed that Covid-19 affects the quality as well as quantity of sperm cells/ semen of infected men.
The conclusion came after semen samples were tested from 120 men at an average age of 35 years old, and at an average of 52 days after they recovered from Covid-19.
The scientist discovered that there was an average of 60% reduction in their sperm mobility (ability & speed of the sperm cells to move about), as well as 37% drop in sperm count.
The study also concluded that the Covid-19 virus was not visible in the semen of infected men, hence, it cannot be sexually transmitted.
Also, damage on the sperm cells were much more during the first month and almost normal after two months.
The result may be a major factor to consider for couples planning to conceive.
The result of the research is yet to be peer-reviewed.
