According to Nas Daily, Joseph Sekar, who is referred to as the generous man of India or India’s Birdman, spends about half of his income feeding about 4,000 parrot birds every day in his home in Chennai, India, and he has been doing it for the past 16 years.
He said the call to serve nature started in 2004, after a huge Tsunami hit his city of Chennai, in which many human lives and homes were lost. Animals and birds too were affected as they lost their homes and sources of food in the natural disaster.
The next day, Joseph Sekar woke up to see 4 parrots on his roof and he casually gave them something to eat. However the real deal was yet to be revealed to him as the next day, the four birds from the previous day, came back with their friends, and the next day, with their “friend’s friends” and soon he saw himself feeding a colony of 4,000 birds every morning!
Feeding 4,000 birds which include parrots, pigeons as well as other species is not a task for the weak as Joseph Sekar said he spends about $40 to $50 every day on bird food, as they consume about 75kg of rice every day!
Joseph Sekar says it’s a God-given gift as he spends from his personal savings, about 40% of his income in feeding the birds! Asides from the monetary drain, the task of feeding the numerous birds is also physically challenging, as he gets up by 4.30am and rushes to the market to buy rice, which he then boils, spreads on the plank atop of his roof and soon the birds starts coming in their droves to feed…and he has been doing this twice every day for 16 years!
Joseph Sekar who is likely to be an electronics electrician, says he hasn’t traveled nor does he plan to leave the house, so he has continued to rent it. He says he hopes to buy the building one day and would continue to feed the birds till his last day, as he refers to the birds as his children!
Nas Daily calls for support for Joseph Sekar, India’s birdman as he continues to help the needy!
