Falz the Bahd Guy and Runtown took to the streets of Lagos State this morning on a peaceful protest against the extra-judicial killings of the Federal Anti-Robbery Squad, known as FSARS or SARS. The protest which came with the slogan #endsars, #endsarsbrutality, #endpolicebrutality, #lagosprotest, was to ensure that the SARS arm of the Nigerian Police Force is totally scrapped off! The protest kicked off from Lekki Tollgate with the protesters carrying placards with various inscriptions, condemning the acts of SARS.
Naira Marley who was one of the first pioneers of the protest did not show up after a Government official urged him not to, stating that the SARS issue is currently been looked into. The Marlian Champion, however, said he would lead another protest next week, if the one held today does not yield any positive result.
Reports from the protest suggest that it was greeted with some forms of violence from the Police. There were reports of physical assaults, tear-gassing, and threat to human lives, as evidenced in this video of a Police officer assaulting a protester and cocking his pistol.
