Following the public outcry that started over the weekend due to the gross high-handedness and extra-judicial killings of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad- SARS, the Inspector General of Police- Adamu Mohammed, has for the 3rd within 3 years, put an end to their activities with immediate effect! Lol!
SARS is hereby prohibited from carrying out routine patrols, stop and search, and other low-risk activities such as mounting of road checkpoints, etc. Other arms of the Police Force were also included in the ban. They are the Tactical Squads of the Force including the Special Tactical Squad (STS), Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Anti-Cultism Squad, and other Tactical Squads operating at the Federal, Zonal, and Command levels. Also, they must always appear in their police uniforms or other approved tactical apparel.
However, investigations conducted by I Get Talk revealed that this is not the first, second, or even third time the FSARS have been banned/ disbanded, each following public outcry on their extra-judicial activities and killings. The Inspector of Police has previously banned SARS on December 2017, September 2018, February 2020, and now October 2020.
Our findings yesterday revealed that FSARS or SARS as they are popularly known as were very much on the road. One was asked if they got a memo to this effect and he said no!
This leaves us wondering how things work in Nigeria again! Especially delicate issues that concern human lives and safety! We call on the IGP and the Federal Government to give us further clarification. The IGP ban on FSARS is tantamount to Rudeboy‘s music- Audio Money, which depicts lies people tell to deceive the society.
