As trade rumors surrounding Dejounte Murray’s future with the Spurs circulate, he is prepared with his popcorn.
In reaction to a Bleacher Report article that said the Spurs and Hawks had explored a trade based around him and Hawks forward John Collins, Murray tweeted on Wednesday, “Uh Ohhhhhhhhh,” using the popcorn emoji.
Murray was selected in the first round of the 2016 NBA Draft, but sources claimed: that “it will take a Jrue Holiday-like package” to land him.
In a four-team trade in November 2020, the Bucks received Holiday, Sam Merrill, the 60th overall selection in the 2020 Draft, along with Eric Bledsoe, George Hill, three future first-round picks, and two drafts pick swaps.
According to reports, the Spurs are receiving bids for Murray and have informed many interested teams that a sizable deal would be required to secure the 25-year-old All-Star.
According to Bleacher Report, trade negotiations between the Hawks and Spurs regarding a Murray-Collins swap date back to the February trade deadline. Atlanta is reportedly looking to improve its backcourt by adding a dynamic ball-handler and defensive partner to join Trae Young. NBA executives allegedly think the Spurs are amenable to a protracted rebuild as well.
Ahead of the 2022 NBA Draft on Thursday night, Murray and other veterans are among those who are the focus of trade rumors.
When Murray tweeted a strange message on Tuesday that had numerous eyeball emojis, it put his followers on edge.
Last year, Murray averaged 21.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 9.2 assists per game as he was selected for his first All-Star game. When his current four-year, $64 million contract expires in 2024, Murray is reportedly going to want the highest possible contract.
