Actor Robert Morse, who began his career on Broadway and went on to act in ‘Mad Men,’ has died at the age of 90. Morse “died peacefully at home following a brief illness,” according to Jordan Bell of the talent agency BRS/Gage, who confirmed the news via email.
Morse won a Tony Award for his performance as J. Pierrepont Finch in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying on Broadway. He starred in the film adaptation of the same musical six years later, in 1967. Morse was also nominated for a Tony Award for his one-man show Tru, in which he played Truman Capote, which he performed in 1990.
Younger viewers, on the other hand, will recognize him from the AMC television series Mad Men, in which he played Bertman Cooper, an advertising billionaire, and Sterling Cooper’s founding partner. He received five Emmy nods for the part.
On Twitter, writer-producer Larry Karaszewski, a vice president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, conveyed his sympathy. “A big talent with a lovely soul. I’m sending my heartfelt condolences to his son Charlie and daughter Allyn. Over the years, I’ve had a lot of pleasure hanging out with Bobby, filming People v OJ and organizing a lot of screenings (How To Succeed, Loved One, That’s Life, etc.) “he penned.
