Newcastle United secured a controversial 2-1 win in a surprising twist at St. James’ Park against Manchester City after two goals in the second half by Harvey Barnes.

Harvey Barnes struck the first goal of the match before Manchester City’s Ruben Dias fired an equaliser into the hosts’ net, while Newcastle’s winger Barnes restored the lead to seal the win moments later.

Barnes’s second goal raised controversy as it led to a lengthy review by VAR for a likely offside that involved Bruno Guimaraes, adding to the City manager’s frustration. Pep Guardiola’s side was also not given a penalty claim by Phil Foden.

The loss leaves Manchester City in third position in the Premier League table with four points behind leaders Arsenal. City appears shaky despite securing a 3-0 victory against title holder Liverpool, with several misses from Erling Haaland as he was unable to secure his 100th Premier League goal.

This win makes it Newcastle’s second against Manchester City after meeting 36 times and gives Newcastle’s coach, Eddie Howe, his maiden top-flight win against Guardiola’s side.
