Crystal Palace shared a 0-0 draw in a frustrating game at Selhurst Park against newly promoted Sunderland.
The two sides were unable to gain dominance in the first half of the game, leaving viewers to guess which side would secure the three points. Yeremy Pino, who plays the wing side for Crystal Palace, was on the lookout to produce a breakthrough but was unable to get a goal from the two shots he fired at the side of the area.
Jean-Philippe Mateta could have secured the first goal, but the shot he fired in the 49th minute ended up in a rebound from goalkeeper Robin Roefs before Pino fired a shot that was obstructed from the corner.
Sunderland were unable to shake Crystal Palace’s defense, and the latter failed to garner the momentum that could threaten the visitors.
Sunderland lost their footing in the match as the game neared the end, but thanks to goalkeeper Roefs, who saved the team from losing all points to their visitor.
Roefs helped his side to secure two important saves in the last minutes of the game as he first dived low to push off an effort from Daichi Kamada and then stood firm to stop Mateta from converting a close-distance effort.
This result leaves Sunderland in sixth position on the Premier League table, while Crystal Palace stays in eighth position.
