Argentine legendary soccer star Lionel Messi was substituted in the 11th minute after Inter Miami’s Leagues Cup game against Club Necaxa after suffering a hamstring injury. Inter Miami clinched the victory through a penalty shootout.
The game, which was played in Fort Lauderdale, part of Florida, at the Chase Stadium, witnessed Messi, arguably the best player on earth, hit Raúl Sánchez and Alexis Peña while he was attempting to dribble into the box.
Messi was captured frustrated as he hit the pitch with an attempt to proceed, but he was later substituted as he left for medical attention in the locker room.
“Leo felt a discomfort in his hamstring,” Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano said after the game. “We won’t know the extent of the injury until tomorrow. He probably has something wrong. It might not be that serious because he wasn’t in pain, but he did feel discomfort.”
The recent hamstring injury contributes to a lot of leg issues the former Barcelona star has experienced in the last 24 months. He was not part of Argentina’s World Cup qualifiers early this year because of a left adductor problem he experienced.
While he had encountered a lot of injury in the past, the Argentine remains a very key part of the Inter Miami squad this season. He has featured in 30 games across competitions, including the Club World Cup, Concacaf Champions Cup, MLS, and Leagues Cup.
He has been instrumental to the team, as he scored 18 goals with nine assists this season in MLS games.
