Shannon Sharpe, a well-known media professional and former NFL tight end, has finally left ESPN’s First Take, where he has gained a reputation as one of the major voices on the show.

The departure of the media personality was confirmed by a source familiar with the matter. The source mentioned that Sharpe left the organisation two weeks after he settled in a civil law case.

The civil lawsuit was initiated by a yet-to-be-revealed woman who accused Shannon Sharpe of several instances of battery, assault, sexual assault, and sexual battery.

56-year-old Sharpe, who once accidentally went live on Instagram while having sex, made a public address on Wednesday, where he expressed his appreciation for the cordial relationship he has enjoyed with ESPN. The former tight end said he was “very, very grateful” for the opportunity he got to display his skills, but acknowledged his unfortunate exit.

“I found out this information a little earlier in the week, and really the only thing that I really asked is like, ‘Guys, could we wait until Monday? My brother’s going into the Pro Football Hall of Fame; I really want it to be about him, and I want it to be about my family,’” Sharpe said on the “Nightcap” podcast alongside former NFL wide receiver Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson and Joe Johnson.

The news coincides with another joyful moment in his family. Sterling Sharpe, his younger brother who used to play for the Green Bay Packers as a wide receiver, will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday.

The elder Sharpe has apologized for the likely distraction but mentioned that his younger sibling had accepted the honour and labelled him a “role model” and a “hero.”

“(ESPN) did what they felt they needed to do, and I’m at peace with that,” Sharpe added. “But I just wish this thing could have waited until Monday, because I hate the fact that I’ve overshadowed my brother. The first two brothers in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and this is what the headline’s going to be for the next couple of days.”
