Real Madrid performed excellently at the Santiago Bernabeu on Thursday by securing their spot in the Copa del Rey quarterfinals with a surprising extra time 5-2 win.
The game between the two sides was dominated in the early minutes by Real Madrid, but the first goal came in the 37th minute after Kylian Mbappé fired into the net with a solo effort amidst claims by Celta Vigo for a controversial penalty.
Kylian Mbappe made another contribution by setting up Vinicius Junior for Real Madrid shortly after the start of the second half.
There was disagreement after a review by VAR ruled out a goal by Arda Güler while Jonathan Bamba finally gave Celta Vigo a goal. Marcos Alonso successfully converted a penalty kick into a goal in the 90th, and that caused extra time.
Endrick Felipe, who came into the game as a substitute, scored two goals for Real Madrid in extra time, while Federico Valverde struck another shot that sealed the victory.
Real Madrid will now be featuring in the Copa del Rey quarterfinal, and while they are yet to know which club they will play against, they are hopeful of clinching the title.
