Veteran outfielder Jurickson Profar has agreed to a new $42 million contract with the Atlanta Braves after shining for the San Diego Padres last year.
The 31-year-old hit 280/.380/.459 with a career-high 24 home runs and 85 RBIs last season, showing he still had what it takes after showing up for over a decade.
For the first time, Profar made the All-Star team and performed so well that he had an opportunity to make a choice. Where would he spend the next few years playing?
Typically, Profar chose the highest bidder, the Atlanta Braves who went against other teams interested in the veteran’s characteristics.
The Braves have been dealing with injuries, especially with their key players. Right fielder Ronald Acuña, who is just returning from a torn ACL injury would play alongside Profar and center fielder Michael Harris II. The Braves starting lineup also includes All-Star third baseman Austin Riley, second baseman Ozzie Albies and first baseman Matt Olson.
Profar started with the Texas Rangers at the age of 19 but he could not live up to his expectations as the the top pick. He then moved to Oakland in 2019 before sticking with the Padres.
The veteran would collect $12 million this year and $15 million in 2026 and 2027.
