Santa Claus began his annual Christmas Eve journey early, delivering gifts worldwide aboard his reindeer-powered sleigh.

Santa Claus has commenced the tradition of the Christmas Eve journey early, donating gifts across the globe to the people for the love of Christmas aboard his reindeer-powered sleigh.

The delivering of gifts by Santa Claus started in 1955, 69 years ago. A joint U.S.-Canadian military command situated in Colorado Springs, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), has followed the progress of the movement by Santa in a whimsical holiday ritual.

The tracking would not have ended even if a federal government shutdown had happened, as military personnel and civilian volunteers are very committed to this festive tradition.

The tradition started in 1955 when a misprinted phone number in a Colorado Springs newspaper directed children to the Continental Air Defense Command, NORAD’s predecessor. An on-duty officer assured callers that Santa, also known as Kris Kringle or St. Nick, was on schedule.

This mission all started in 1955 when a misprinted phone number in a Colorado Springs newspaper directed kids to NORAD’s predecessor, the Continental Air Defense Command. When people arrived at the venue, the officer on duty informed callers that Santa, also known as Kris Kringle or St. Nick, was on schedule.

In order to continue to monitor Santa’s movement, NORAD has now obtained advanced tracking technology. Those who would like to get live updates can visit www.noradsanta.org, a site that features Santa’s North Pole Village, games, music, and more in multiple languages.

Followers of Santa Claus can also track Santa on Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube, and via other platforms such as Amazon Alexa, SiriusXM, and OnStar.
