Liam Cullen shines and becomes the star of the game as Wales staged a great comeback to defeat Iceland 4-1 and secure promotion to the Nations League.
To make this promotion a success, Craig Bellamy’s needed to do everything possible to secure a win while Turkey must also drop points, which Montenegro helped to achieve after securing a 2-1 win.
Iceland’s Andri Gudjohnsen, son of legend Eidur, scored a goal in the 8th minute that caused an early setback for Wales, firing a shot that went in between Danny Ward’s legs after a calculated save that prevented Orri Oskarsson’s effort.
Cullen scored in the 30th minute to help Wales achieve equalization with a header from a pinpoint cross by Brennan Johnson. Cullen scored another just before the end of the first half after converting a rebound from a shot from Dan James that was saved, giving Wales a first-half lead.
Wales’s Johnson scored a goal in the 65th minute by converting a complete pass from Cullen, extending the team’s lead. Harry Wilson scored the last goal in favor of Wales to seal the victory with a long-range shot through an assist from Cullen.
The victory put Wales as the leader of the group, avoiding the playoffs, while a win against Turkey sealed Wales automatic promotion to the Nations League’s elite division.
