Browns’ Quarterback Deshaun Watson Suffers Torn Achilles

Browns' Quarterback Deshaun Watson Suffers Torn Achilles

The Cleveland Browns have been dealt a huge blow after their Quarterback, Deshaun Watson suffered a right Achilles injury that may likely end his season in their 21-14 loss to the Bengals on Sunday.

The coach, Kevin Stefanski, has confirmed Watson would undergo further testing to know the extent of the injury.

“Obviously, it doesn’t look good with the injury,” Stefanski said. “So, I’ll give him a call here in a little but … disappointed for him. Any of our guys that you lose, you’re disappointed because you know much this means to them and how hard they work. It’s tough.”

Watson got the injury on a non-contact play when he tried to move the ball after the two-minute warning. When his legs could no longer carry him, he collapsed to the ground and had to be carted out. He was very emotional about his predicament and the entire Browns sideline came to show him their support.

The remaining players on the field had to continue in a toxic atmosphere as the fans booed Watson, which was very frustrating.

“We don’t boo guys that are injured on the field, especially when the cart comes out,” defensive end Myles Garrett said after the game. “We should be ashamed of ourselves as Browns and as fans to boo anyone and their downfall.”

Coach Stefanski also thought it was odd to boo an injured player. “I don’t think it’s ever OK to cheer when someone’s injured. I’m sure it’s not every person in the building doing that, but that’s disappointing,” he said.

Watson has endured a disappointing season in his third year in Cleveland. He was 15-of-17 for 128 yards Sunday before the injury.

However, Watson has had a long history of injuries throughout college and even when he went pro. While at the University of Clemson, he played the season through a torn ACL in his left knee. So, the Browns understood that constant factor before giving him a fully guaranteed $230 million.

A lot of fans have called for his transfer, but head coach Stefanski still has faith in the tough player. According to him, Watson gave the Browns its best chance to win.

The Browns still owe Watson $46 million in each of the next two seasons.
