Princess Kate, accompanied by her nine-year-old daughter Princess Charlotte, attended the Wimbledon men’s singles final on Sunday. This appearance will be the Princess of Wales’s second public engagement since disclosing her cancer diagnosis earlier this year.
The royal pair arrived at the All-England Club approximately 30 minutes before the championship match between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz. Princess Kate, wearing a purple outfit in keeping with Wimbledon’s official colors, received a warm welcome from spectators as she took her place in the Royal Box.
Prior to the match, Princess Kate and Princess Charlotte visited a terrace connected to Centre Court, where they greeted several young British tennis players, including Emma Raducanu.
In the Royal Box, they were joined by Kate’s sister Pippa Matthews, while actors Tom Cruise and Benedict Cumberbatch, along with former Wimbledon champions were seated nearby.
Princess Kate’s role as patron of the All England Club usually involves presenting trophies to finalists, but her participation has been limited this year due to her ongoing cancer treatments. In June, she shared an update on her health, stating,
“My treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months. As anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days.”
Princess Kate also expressed her intention to gradually resume public duties, saying,
“I hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet.”
Prince William was not present at Wimbledon, opting instead to attend the men’s soccer European Championship final in Germany. Queen Camilla had visited Wimbledon earlier in the week.
The royal family’s social media accounts celebrated Princess Kate’s return to Wimbledon, sharing photos and stating, “Great to be back at Wimbledon!”
