MSNBC made the decision to suspend its popular political talk show “Morning Joe” on Monday in the wake of the recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. The network opted to focus on continuous breaking news coverage of the incident instead of airing its regular programming.

According to reports from CNN, MSNBC executives were concerned that the show’s hosts or guests might make potentially inappropriate comments regarding the sensitive situation. “Morning Joe,” known for its often critical discussions of Trump and his policies, was deemed too risky to air during such a politically charged moment.

A spokesperson for NBCUniversal News Group explained the decision, stating,

“Given the gravity and complexity of this unfolding story, NBC News, NBC News NOW and MSNBC have remained in rolling breaking news coverage since Saturday evening.”

The spokesperson added that “the networks will continue to cross-simulcast, alternating between different” news programs to provide comprehensive coverage of the developing situation.

In place of “Morning Joe,” MSNBC reportedly focused its coverage on the Republican National Convention during the show’s usual time slot.

The suspension of “Morning Joe” is particularly notable given its influence and viewership. President Joe Biden is reportedly a regular viewer of the program, often reacting to its coverage of his administration.

MSNBC plans to resume airing “Morning Joe” on Tuesday.
