Holi, a festival originating from South Asia, marks the advent of spring and holds deep significance in Hindu mythology.
However, it is embraced by South Asians as a tribute to the entire sub-continent, celebrating its rich heritage and culture.
Traditionally, Holi festivities involve playful interactions with colored powder, lively dancing, and communal feasting. Even in the United States, Holi celebrations are observed, often with a primary emphasis on educating younger generations about its cultural significance.
Akruti Babaria, an entrepreneur based in Buffalo, is the visionary behind Kulture Khazana. Her company specializes in providing South Asian children’s activities, books, and toys, aiming to foster a deeper connection with cultural traditions and values.
“We have so much diversity, equity and inclusion going in the corporate world and for adults, but why don’t we start it at a very young age where kids don’t know any different? They are inclusive from birth. So, how about we just foster that through learning and play? And that’s kind of the crux of the mission is just giving children those tools,” Babaria said.
