Kylian Mbappe sent Ligue 1 leaders PSG a step ahead of their counterpart Real Sociedad with a goal in the first leg of their round-of-16 clash.
For close to an hour at the Parc des Princes, the home side couldn’t convert their opportunities, despite having clear-cut chances.
They had more shots, including a first-half effort by Mbappé that was turned around the post by Sociedad keeper Álex Remiro.
Sociedad had its chances, too, in the first half, but they failed to convert.
PSG we’re more clinical in the second half. Mbappé pounced on a corner kick that had been deflected by teammate Marquinhos and stabbed the ball past Remiro to make it 1-0.
Bradley Barcola made it two just 12 minutes later, doubling their advantage.
Bayer Munich on the other hand lost against thief Italian counterparts Lazio.
Bayern center-back Dayot Upamecano was shown a red card on the play that sent Immobile to the spot. He would not be participating in the second leg.
Immobile stepped up and beat Manuel Neuer and, with a man advantage for the final 20-plus minutes, they held on to their lead.
