Adele Zerilli Springsteen, the enduring legal secretary, inspiration in music, and dance partner who endeared herself to many within her son Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Nation and beyond, has passed away at the age of 98.
Bruce Springsteen conveyed the news of his mother’s passing through an Instagram post, where he shared a poignant video of them dancing to Glenn Miller’s classic “In the Mood.” The post, featuring the caption “Adele Springsteen – May 4, 1925-January 31, 2024,” also included an extensive quote from the lyrics of “The Wish,” one of his songs that pays tribute to her.
“I remember in the morning mom hearing your alarm clock ring. I’d lie in bed and listen to you getting ready for work, the sound of your makeup case on the sink,” the post says.
While the exact cause and additional details remain undisclosed, Springsteen disclosed in 2021 that his mother had been grappling with Alzheimer’s disease for a decade, rendering her unable to speak or stand.
The renowned New Jersey rock star and his E Street Band had postponed the remaining 2023 concerts last fall as Springsteen underwent treatment for peptic ulcer disease.
