Newly married Memphis news anchor Amanda Handon died on Thursday from medical complications, the network announced on X(formerly Twitter).
She was 38 years old.
Hanson had a “medical emergency” earlier this week which caused fatal complications, according to KAIT-8, the network where Hanson started her news career in 2010.
Hanson started taking dance lessons at 8 years old and was on the dance team when she attended the University of Memphis.
Before she landed her job with KAIT-8, Hanson told Action News 5, “I was going to take some time and travel on a cruise ship, dancing on the shows.”
“I would have never guessed that I would be doing what I’m doing now,” Hanson said of her news career. “I would love to think that I would be dancing on Broadway” if she wasn’t a journalist.
Recently, a family member shared a video of her and her new husband, Darren, dancing in their kitchen, which they recently renovated.
“Her renovation tales never failed to bring laughter to our group,” Action 5 News wrote in their online tribute to Hanson, adding, “with Amanda often laughing the hardest.”
“We are devastated,” Action 5 News wrote on X, adding that Hanson “was the driving force behind the Action News 5 Digital Desk.”
“Amanda was as energetic of a person you will ever meet. Had so much joy for life, the Lord, family, and friends,” the K8 sports team wrote in a post on Facebook.
“Bet she’s dancing right now in Heaven and watching the Memphis Tigers.”
