Amy Schumer is once again under scrutiny, this time for naming a Nazi-themed movie as her ‘movie of the year,’ sparking significant criticism online. Following previous controversies related to her comments on Israel’s Gaza campaign, the comedian took to Instagram to declare ‘The Zone of Interest,’ a film depicting a Nazi commandant at Auschwitz, as her top pick for the year.
Sharing a still from the movie, Schumer captioned it with, “I stand corrected. @a24 Zone of Interest is the movie of the year. And performance of the year, if you ask me, is @daniebb3 in Color Purple.”
Directed by Jonathan Glazer, ‘The Zone of Interest’ follows the story of Rudolf Hoss, a senior Nazi officer at Auschwitz, and his wife Hedwig, attempting to create a dream life near the concentration camp.
The Auschwitz camp witnessed the extermination of over 1.1 million people, primarily Jews, in less than five years. Despite turning off comments on her post, Schumer faced backlash on social media, with people questioning her choice in light of her past remarks on Israel and her perceived challenges as a Jewish celebrity.
