The action film Jawan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, opened in theaters on Thursday, and it already seems unstoppable. The Atlee-directed movie started setting new records the day it was released.
Jawan has set a record for the greatest advance ticket sales for any SRK film, easily surpassing Shah Rukh’s Pathaan in terms of opening day numbers with 1.6 million tickets booked in India.
The sale of Jawan tickets has increased significantly, with 2.5 million tickets having been sold as of Thursday, according to ticket aggregator BookMyShow.
Ashish Saksena, COO – Cinemas, BookMyShow said, “Sales have picked up across the length and breadth of the country for all languages, growing multi-fold for the Tamil and Telugu versions of the film, although the Hindi version is naturally taking the lead.”
He added, “While the movie is expectedly raking in numbers at multiplexes, it has garnered spectacular interest from audiences opting to watch the mass entertainer at a single-screen theatre across the length and breadth of the country. Ticket sales for Jawan at single-screen theatres alone have contributed a significant 36% of sales on BookMyShow so far.”
The action movie, which also features Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi in prominent roles, is predicted to gross Rs 75 crore in India on its opening day across all languages, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. According to Taran Adarsh, a film trade analyst, the movie has earned Rs 19.35 crore at national theater chains by Thursday midday.
Manobala Viajabalan, a film industry specialist, stated on X that Jawan’s advance ticket sales are the second-highest for any Indian movie, behind Baahubali 2.
“Jawan CROSSES Pathaan advance booking at national multiplexes #Baahubali2 – 6,50,000 #Jawan – 5,59,291 #Pathaan – 5,56,000 #KGFChapter2 – 5,15,000 #War – 4,10,000 #ThugsOfHindostan – 3,46,000 #PremRatanDhanPayo – 3,40,000 #Bharat – 3,16,000 #Sultan – 3,10,000 #Dangal – 3,05,000.”
Given the strong word-of-mouth around the movie, more tickets should be sold for Jawan in the upcoming days. The movie received a 3.5-star rating and the label “massy entertainer” from Shubhra Gupta, a critic with The Indian Express.
