Aston Villa came back stronger after Steven Gerrard was sacked on Friday. They pummeled Brentford by four goals to nothing.
Just 72 hours after Gerrard’s sack, credit caretaker, Aaron Danks created a strong lineup that proved to be formidable.
Ollie Watkins was more of a winger on Sunday and Leon Bailey was splendid on the left.
Thomas Frank made just one change to Brentford from their midweek draw. Ajer replaces Mee in their back three.
Villa scored in the second minute as they forced an early corner down their left as Buendia’s shot from outside the box got blocked. They took it short, and Bailey swept Luiz’s cutback from the byline into the net.
Five minutes later, Young played a defense-splitting pass into the inside-left channel for Bailey to run onto. The Jamaican squared the ball for Ings, who fired in from close range, making it two for the hosts.
Ings made it three for Villa in the space of 15 minutes, smashing his penalty down the middle to beat Raya and steal his second goal of the game.
In the 59th minute, Watkins reached Bailey’s left-wing cross to fire twice against Raya at the far post, getting a fourth for the hosts.
The hosts didn’t attempt a shot after Watkins’ goal. They had all three points. They only needed to defend their win.
The visitors still stay 10th in the Premier League, after beating Brighton by a shocking two-goal lead during the week.
Brentford improved in the second half, but in truth they never got going, as they could only create corners.
