According to proposed tariff changes by the company, Rags siltums JSC (RS), Riga intends to double the heating tariff in the capital of Latvia on October 2.

The heating energy production component will change the most, by 118%. For the end tariff following 15 August 2023, a modest reduction of EUR 0.51 is anticipated.

HEATING ENERGY’S END TARIFF IS PLANNED TO BE INCREASED FROM THE CURRENT 85.45 EUR/MWH TO 170.59 EUR/MWH (WITHOUT VAT).

The rapid increase in the price of natural gas and purchased heating energy, according to RS, is what caused the increase in the current heating energy tariff.

As was previously mentioned, the Public Utilities Commission (SPRK) announced on September 1 that it had approved new, significantly higher heating energy tariffs for Latvenergo TEC-1 and TEC-2. The RS heating tariff will be significantly impacted by these rates.

Every heating season, Latvenergo TEC-1 and TEC-1 provide about 45% of the total heating energy used by users of RS.

The remaining heat is generated by RS using biomass (wood chips) and natural gas, as well as by independent heat producers, most of whom use wood chips.
