Marseille came back from the international break with a bang, thumping their host Angers in a Ligue 1 match to go to the top of the table.
Angers, whose ball hit the goalpost through Nabil Bentaleb early on, now sits in 14th place on eight points. Marseille has enjoyed quite a streak of wins this season, going for goals and getting them.
Playing the first of 11 matches in 55 days, French international wingback, Clauss was on fire, as he got a goal and set up assists for both Luis Suarez and Gerson to make it three goals to nothing for the visitors.
Currently, Marseille is on 23 points from nine games, one ahead of Paris St Germain who hosts Nice on Saturday.
Clauss, who started on the left wing instead of the right flank for a change, put the visitors in front 10 minutes before half-time, after firing a left-footed angled shot into the top corner.
In the 50th minute, Clauss placed a nice ball for Luis Suarez who fired past Yahia Fofana from close range.
The 59th minute saw Clauss and Gigot create some moments before Clauss passed to Gerson, who controlled the ball well and beat Fofana, sending it past Angers’s goalkeeper.
If PSG wins their match, they would go to the top of the table and would be ahead of Marseille by 2 points.
