On Sunday afternoon at Soldier Field, Roquan Smith made a major play just when the Chicago Bears needed him to.
With less than a minute left, Smith intercepted a ball intended for Rex Burkhead from Houston Texans quarterback Davis Mills and returned it 18 yards to the 12-yard line.
The Bears won 23-20 thanks to a 30-yard field goal by kicker Cairo Santos, who improved his team’s record to 2-1.
The Texans had the ball at their own 17-yard line with a chance to take the lead after the game was knotted at 20, but they made a holding mistake on a punt return.
However, Smith made the play on a throw that defensive lineman Angelo Blackson intercepted three plays into the drive.
It assisted in ending a contest in which the Bears gained 281 yards on the ground but again had trouble throwing.
