Johnny Depp’s Past Relationships

Lori Anne Allison (1983 to 1985)

In 1983, Johnny Depp wed Los Angeles-based make-up artist Lori Anne Allison. Before divorcing in 1985, the couple had a two-year marriage.

Allison was the sister of the bass player in a band Depp was in at the time of their marriage, according to Matt Green’s biography “The Amazing Life of Johnny Depp,” which was published when Depp was 20 years old.

There isn’t a lot of information available regarding their marriage or divorce. Depp hadn’t yet been on a large screen in “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” a Wes Craven classic horror movie from 1984 when the couple got married.

Sherilyn Fenn (1986-1989)

Between 1986 to 1989, Johnny Depp was romantically involved with Sherilyn Fenn, the actor best recognized for her leading role in David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks.”

There were rumours that the two got engaged, although that has never been confirmed. Fenn also made an appearance in Depp’s popular television series “21 Jump Street” in 1987.

Jennifer Grey (1989)

Johnny Depp proposed to Jennifer Grey in 1989 after the two of them had been together for two weeks, according to Jennifer Grey’s 2022 autobiography “Out Of The Corner.”

Grey, who is best known for her part in the 1987 classic movie “Dirty Dancing,” recently spoke with People magazine. She called her relationship with Depp a “fucking bonfire” and said the two frequently “twinned” and wore “matching leather jackets.”

The friendship between the two didn’t endure as Depp’s career skyrocketed, Grey writes in a book.

It didn’t help their relationship, according to Grey, as Johnny Depp grew more irritable as he established himself as a Hollywood heartthrob.

Grey said that she broke things off with Depp in a note she left in his hotel room. Their nine-month engagement ended abruptly.

Winona Ryder (1989-1991)

One of the most popular couples in the early 1990s was Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder; even after their breakup, audiences are still enthralled by their love story.

In 1989, the Beetlejuice actress and the Pirates of the Caribbean actor first met at a movie premiere in New York City, and according to Depp, it was love at first sight.

The actors’ careers were boosted by their co-starring roles in the 1990 film Edward Scissorhands and their engagement within a few months. Ryder was only 17 when she first met Depp.

After three years, the couple decided to call off their engagement. Johnny Depp famously changed his “Winona forever” tattoo to “Wino forever” after their breakup.

However, he has said he had no regrets about getting his ex’s name tattooed on him.

Kate Moss (1994-1998)

From 1994 through 1998, Kate Moss and Johnny Depp were in a relationship.

During that period, the couple made news for their renowned brawls, even resulting once in Depp damaging his suite at New York City’s Mark Hotel in 1994.

Depp was arrested for the damage. When police arrived at the site, they reportedly discovered Moss and the Edward Scissorhands star sitting among the wreckage.

As previously reported by Insider, Johnny Depp’s criminal mischief charges were dropped after he paid over $9,000 in fines.

According to reports at the time, Depp stuffed a bathtub with $1,000 worth of champagne.

Despite being comparatively brief, Depp and Moss’ romance left a lasting impression on both of them.

Vanessa Paradis (1998-2012)

Following a chance encounter in a Paris hotel lobby between Johnny Depp and Paradis, the couple began dating in 1998. Depp and Paradis had previously briefly met, but Depp was then dating British supermodel Kate Moss.

The couple soon began dating and welcomed their daughter Lily-Rose Depp. Their daughter was born in May 1999,

A year after her parents’ initial acquaintance

John “Jack” Christopher Depp III, her younger brother, was born in 2002, three years after Lily’s birth.

Depp and Paradis remained together until 2012 when they officially ended their relationship.

In light of their split, Depp’s representative announced that he had “amicably separated” from Paradis in a statement provided to Entertainment Tonight at the time.

The message said, “Please respect their privacy and, more crucially, the privacy of their children.

The exact cause of Johnny Depp and Paradis’ breakup has never been fully explained.

The Black Mass actor made one of the key issues obvious during his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard in April 2022.

On April 19, 2022, Depp appeared to confirm that he had an affair while he was with Paradis while testifying in court.

Although Depp and Heard initially crossed paths in 2009 while filming the movie The Rum Diary, it wasn’t until 2012 that the two were first openly linked after Depp’s split from Paradis.

Depp, however, admitted in his evidence that it was after the 2011 movie’s passionate shower scene that he first felt a connection to Heard.

Depp claims that their on-screen kiss wasn’t their only physical contact during his relationship with Paradis.

Depp recalled an incident from their night together in his dressing room. Glasses of wine meshed lips. But their genitals didn’t.

Years later, the couple would resume their passion and even get married.

Amber Heard (2015-2016)

During the filming of “The Rum Diary” in 2009, Johnny Depp met Amber Heard. In 2015, the couple had a wedding.

Only 20 to 25 guests were present for the couple’s little wedding, according to People magazine.

Heard and Depp divorced in 2016, and four days later, she got a temporary restraining order against him. Heard said that when they were together, Depp had physically abused her.

Through his agents, Depp refuted the accusations and said that Heard was “attempting to secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse.”

Heard withdrew her plea for a domestic violence restraining order, and the two agreed. She also withdrew her $50,000 monthly request for spousal support.

Additionally, Depp and Amber Heard issued a joint statement, which read:

“Our relationship was very passionate and tumultuous at times, but it was always based on love. No one has fabricated evidence in order to gain an advantage.”

Their divorce was fully resolved in 2017. Heard received $7 million from the divorce.

In a 2018 article, she claimed to have experienced domestic abuse, and he sued her for $50 million (£40 million). Heard counter-sued for a $100 million.

The jury decided in favour of Johnny Depp and gave him a $15 million verdict. Amber was compensated $2 million by Depp’s attorney for being disparaged.

Johnny Depp’s Acting Career

He obtained a job as a ballpoint pen salesman after getting married to Lori Anne Allison to support himself and his wife.

However, a trip to Los Angeles, California, with his wife turned out to be a blessing in disguise when he met actor Nicolas Cage, who encouraged him to pursue acting.

This led to Depp’s film debut in the low-budget horror movie A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), where he played a teenager who becomes the victim of the demon Freddy Krueger’s dream stalking.

In 1987, he became popular When he took over from Jeff Yagher as undercover detective Tommy Hanson in the hit television series 21 Jump Street in 1987.

Depp’s first of several outstanding collaborations with filmmaker Tim Burton occurred in 1990 when he portrayed the titular part in Edward Scissorhands.

Following the success of the movie, Depp established himself as a serious, slightly sinister, eccentric performer by repeatedly choosing parts that astounded both audiences and reviewers.

Before reuniting with Burton in the title role of Ed Wood, he appeared in numerous movies and continued to garner praise from critics and rising popularity.

He starred alongside Al Pacino in the factual movie Donnie Brasco in 1997 as an undercover FBI agent & Terry Gilliam directed Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas in 1998.

Finally, in 1999, he made an appearance in the sci-fi/horror movie The Astronaut’s Wife (1999).

He reunited with Burton the following year for Sleepy Hollow (1999), in which he portrays Ichabod Crane to perfection.

Depp has portrayed a variety of roles throughout his career, including another real-life character in From Hell’s Inspector Fred Abberline (2001).

In Robert Rodriguez’s “mariachi” trilogy’s conclusion, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, he outperformed legendary actors like Antonio Banderas in 2003.

He starred in the fantastic family smash Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) the same year portraying the endearing, cunning, and roguish Captain Jack Sparrow, a role that only Johnny Depp could play to perfection.

His career has been given several opportunities thanks to the film’s immense success, including an Oscar nomination.

He co-starred with Kate Winslet in the fact-based Finding Neverland (2004) and played the sympathetic novelist James Barrie in the Stephen King adaptation Secret Window (2004).

He also played Rochester in the British film The Libertine (2004).

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a 2005 film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s book, was Depp’s next collaboration with Burton.

They also worked together on Alice in Wonderland (2010) and Dark Shadows (2012).

He played alongside Michelle Pfeiffer in Dark Shadows (2012), Armie Hammer in The Lone Ranger (2013), and Morgan Freeman in Transcendence (2014).

In 2016’s Alice Through the Looking Glass, he played Tarrant Hightopp once more. He also starred in the drama Minamata (2020).

Johnny Depp’s musical career

When Depp was 12 years old, his mother handed him a guitar, and he started playing in numerous bands.

He left Miramar High School at the age of 16 in 1979 to pursue a career as a rock musician.

Two weeks later, he attempted to return to school, but the headmaster advised him to pursue his aspiration of becoming a musician.

Depp joined the band The Kids in 1980 and started performing there.

After enjoying some local success in Florida, the group changed its name to Six Gun Method and relocated to Los Angeles in search of a record deal.

Depp worked several odd jobs in addition to the band, including telemarketing.

In 1984, The Kids broke up before agreeing to a record deal, and Depp started working with the group Rock City Angels.

On their debut Geffen Records album Young Man’s Blues, he co-wrote the song “Mary.”

Depp was an accomplished guitarist who later contributed to songs by artists such as Oasis, Shane MacGowan, Iggy Pop, Vanessa Paradis, Aerosmith, Marilyn Manson, and The New Basement Tapes, among others.

At the Revolver Golden Gods Awards in 2012, he also performed alongside Manson. Depp has performed guitar on the soundtracks for his films Chocolat and Once Upon a Time in Mexico.

He has also appeared in music videos for Paul McCartney, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, The Lemonheads, Avril Lavigne, and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

Additionally, he was a part of the musical ensemble P in the 1990s, which also included guitarist Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols, bassist Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and singer Gibby Haynes of the Butthole Surfers.

Together with Joe Perry and Alice Cooper, Depp founded the supergroup Hollywood Vampires in 2015.

The band also features Bruce Witkin, a friend from Depp’s 1980s band, The Kids. In September 2015, Hollywood Vampires released their debut studio album of the same name.

Along with three original songs, it contained eleven legendary rock covers (all co-written by Depp).

The band had their live debut at The Roxy in Los Angeles in September 2015, and since then, two global tours—in 2016 and 2018—have been completed.

Rise, their second studio album, was released in June 2019 and consists primarily of original music, including songs written by Depp.

Depp sings a cover of David Bowie’s “Heroes” on the album as well. In 2020, Depp and guitarist Jeff Beck published a cover of John Lennon’s “Isolation,” and they promised to collaborate more in the future.

Beginning in May 2022, Depp appeared on stage with Beck for a string of performances in the United Kingdom, when Beck revealed they had collaborated on an album.

On July 15, 2022, their collaborative album, named 18, is due out. Depp will travel with Beck on his upcoming June European tour.
