A new strain of the Covid-19 virus called Deltacron has been detected in Cyprus. It is coming shortly after the discovery of the IHU variant in France.
Deltacron variant as the name implied is a combination of the Delta and Omicron strain of the Covid-19 virus.
People infected with the Deltacron variant are not the same as those infected with both the Delta and the Omicron virus, as Leondios Kostrikis, professor of Biology at the University of Cyprus would put it; Deltacron has “the genetic signature of Omicron and the genomes of Delta.”
25 people have reportedly been infected by the Deltacron virus; with very few cases found in vaccinated people.
