Famous writer and activist – Bell Hooks, real name Gloria Jean Watkins is dead. She died at the age of 69 years old in her Kentucky home after an extended illness according to Berea College.

The college announced her death in a statement:

“Berea College is deeply saddened about the death of bell hooks, Distinguished Professor in Residence in Appalachian Studies, prodigious author, public intellectual and one of the country’s foremost feminist scholars.”

Bell Hooks was well known for her books which were majorly authored around the women-gender, rights, and economics. They include; “Ain’t I a Woman? Black Women and Feminism,” “Feminist Theory: From Margin to Center” and “All About Love: New Visions.”

Her penchant to further the clause of the feminist movement lead her to define feminism as a movement to end sexism, sexist exploitation, and oppression.
