An emotional Gus Walz was noticeably sighted in the crowd at the DNC on Wednesday night as his father officially accepted the vice presidential nomination.
Gus was captured standing with his mother Gwen and sister Hope. He was seen shedding tears and openly cried with pride, while his mother and sister quietly did the same while they were standing by his side.
His emotions went to a higher level when the vice president’s nominee directly addressed the family’s fertility struggles when delivering his speech.
“Gus, Hope and Gwen, you are my entire world and I love you,” Gov. Tim Walz said, prompting his 17-year-old son to jump up, clapping and crying, as he pointed back at his dad.
“That’s my dad!” Gus Walz excitedly said.
His family has been truthful about their dependence on fertility treatments and has also shared Gus’s journey with neurodiversity, which includes nonverbal learning disorder and ADHD.
The son of the vice president‘s nominee’s emotional display resonated with social media users.
Jen Psaki, a former White House press secretary, posted on X, “Team Gus Walz.” Former White House communications director Kate Bedingfield included that “Tim Walz was a full percentage pitch perfect, grand slam, touchdown in all the possible ways available. And yet somehow, Gus Walz was even better.”
