Florida Panthers Stage Dramatic Comeback Victory In Boston, Pushing Bruins To Brink Of NHL Playoff Elimination

In Sunday’s Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinal series, the Florida Panthers orchestrated an impressive comeback against the host Boston Bruins. Trailing by two goals, the Panthers surged in the third period, netting two goals to secure a 3-2 victory.

Anton Lundell contributed a goal and an assist, while Sam Bennett and Aleksander Barkov each found the back of the net in the final frame, propelling the Panthers to a commanding 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series. Evan Rodrigues played a pivotal role with two assists for Florida, showcasing their offensive prowess.

The Panthers’ resilience was evident as they notched their fifth multi-goal comeback win in postseason history. With this win, they now have the opportunity to clinch the series in Game 5, set to take place in Sunrise, Florida on Tuesday. Sergei Bobrovsky’s solid goaltending performance, tallying 16 saves, was instrumental in securing the victory for Florida.

Despite the Bruins’ efforts, highlighted by goals from David Pastrnak and Brandon Carlo, and Jeremy Swayman’s 38 saves, they fell short against the relentless offensive pressure from the Panthers. Boston struggled to generate offense, managing only 18 shots compared to Florida’s 41, and failed to capitalize on their power play opportunities, going 0-for-6.

One pivotal moment came at 3:41 of the third period when Bennett capitalized on a bouncing puck in the left crease, leveling the score with a power play goal. Although Boston challenged for goaltender interference, the goal stood, shifting momentum in favor of the Panthers.

The Bruins now face an uphill battle as they attempt to make NHL history by overcoming a 3-1 series deficit. Despite their strong start in Game 4, leading 2-0 after the first period, Boston couldn’t maintain their momentum against the resilient Panthers. Notably, Barkov’s go-ahead goal at 7:31 of the third period proved to be the turning point, giving Florida their first lead of the game.

“I think we missed four odd-man rushes in the second that could have really extended our lead,” Bruins coach Jim Mongomery said.

As the series progresses, both teams are aware of the stakes. For the Bruins, it’s a chance to defy the odds and mount a comeback reminiscent of the Panthers’ own feat in last season’s playoffs. Conversely, the Panthers are determined to maintain their momentum and advance to the next round, building on their impressive performance in Game 4.

“My mind isn’t on (moving forward) right now,” Montgomery said. “It’s a tough loss and we’ll start looking at ways to improve again tomorrow.”
