At the age of 76, Terry Anderson, a seasoned journalist who endured a six-year hostage ordeal in Lebanon, has passed away.

Anderson, who served as a correspondent for the Associated Press in the Middle East, was abducted in 1985.

Prior to his tenure with the Associated Press, he worked as a reporter for KRNT Radio and KCCI-TV, boasting a background in journalism. Additionally, he was an alumnus of Iowa State University, where he contributed to the Iowa State Daily.

Dr. Michael Bugeja, a distinguished professor at the Greenlee School of Journalism, crossed paths with Anderson during their teaching stints at Ohio University.

“He is to me the epitome of a journalist,” said Bugeja. “Terry’s legacy was the ability to endure the most horrendous type of imprisonment you can imagine, to come out of it and teach journalism with a zeal that inspired generations.”
