Punjab Kings’ batsman Ashutosh Sharma showcased an impressive half-century during the IPL 2024 clash against the Mumbai Indians. One standout moment was his paddle-swept six off Jasprit Bumrah in the 13th over of the innings.

Despite Punjab Kings’ loss by nine runs to the Mumbai Indians, Ashutosh Sharma’s performance has garnered praise. When questioned about his fifty after the match, Sharma cleverly commented on Jasprit Bumrah.

It was my dream to sweep Bumrah. I had practised this shot but I did it against the world’s best bowler,” said Sharma.

“It’s fine, it is all part of the game,” he added.

In the IPL encounter, Mumbai Indians set a target of 193 runs against Punjab Kings, who fell short and were bowled out for 183 in 19.1 overs. MI’s star bowler Jasprit Bumrah claimed three wickets.

Ashutosh Sharma attributed his improvement this season to former India player and coach Sanjay Bangar, who serves as the head of cricket development at Punjab Kings.

“Sanjay sir told me that I am not a slogger and that I can play proper cricket shots. It was a small statement but carried a huge meaning for me. I am only following it – I am not a hard-hitter, I am playing proper cricketing shots and that is what has changed my game,” Ashutosh said.

“Back home, I was working with my coach Amay Khurasiya who had told me that the longer you stay on the pitch, the more your team has a chance of winning,” he added.

Following his fifty, the right-handed batter made gestures towards the Punjab Kings dugout, indicating his celebrations were directed towards the team management. Despite the defeat, Ashutosh Sharma believes Punjab Kings have been performing well in the tournament.
