Louisville police were called to respond Friday morning to a bomb threat at the Louisville Zoo.

Kyle Shepherd, a spokesperson for the zoo, stated that the threat was received around 8:47 a.m.

As a precautionary measure, zoo staff and visitors were evacuated, and police were summoned to conduct a thorough search of the premises.

Around 11 a.m., both the LMPD and the Zoo issued a joint announcement, indicating that the park would reopen at noon.

A statement from the Louisville Metro Police suggested that the threat was likely a false alarm, but the Sixth Division would continue collaborating with zoo officials as a precaution.

Shepherd informed WDRB that arrivals for field trips had to be postponed, with some groups relocated to Joe Creason Park across the street until the situation was resolved.

The Zoo’s education staff reached out to inform scheduled visitors of possible delays in the zoo’s opening hours. Typically, the zoo opens to the public at 10 a.m.
