According to police reports, a man had died in New York after falling onto the subway and getting hit by a train during a fight where the phone of one of the two parties fell into the rail tracks.

In yet another deadly incident to occur within the New York City transit system, authorities said two men bumped into each other on the platform at the Roosevelt Avenue-Jackson Heights station around 6 p.m. on Monday and something fell.

A cell phone belonging to the suspect fell onto the train tracks. and he demanded the victim go get it.

The other man refused to retrieve it, prompting the two to fight. The victim, identified as 48-year-old Heriberto Quintana, fell into the traij tracks after their tussle, while a train passed by.

Quintana was taken to Elmhurst Hospital where he died, police said. The other man who fought with him was 50 years old and he was taken into police custody immediately after the incident.

Authorities are now studying the surveillance footage to see if the suspect pushed Quintana off the outlet or if he fell on his own.

While they are busy investigating, they have not filed the other fighter with any charge yet.

Quintana’s death triggered massive delays on the E/F/M/R lines going in and out of Queens. The Long Island Rail Road ended up picking up some of the slack, and cross-honored MetroCard holders in both directions.

The incident was the ninth death in the subway system this year and the fifth in the New York transit system over the last two weeks.

Meanwhile, three other people have been stabbed to death since September 30, with two in subway raids and a third on a New York city bus.
