Louisville Defensive Lineman Jermayne Lole Away For The Season

A crucial transfer player will be absent for the remainder of the season and tonight’s game against UCF for the University of Louisville football team.

Defensive lineman Jermayne Lole was hurt late in the first game last week against Syracuse and is not in the lineup tonight. According to a U of L spokesman, Lole injured his elbow and will likely be out for the remainder of the campaign.

The 6-foot-3, 310-pound Lole was a key off-season acquisition for the Cardinals.

Lole was one of nine transfers that Louisville acquired this offseason. Lole was injured at Arizona State last season and missed the entire campaign. He was the lone transfer on the defensive line, and the Cardinals had anticipated having him start and play a significant role.

Lole visited U of L in the middle of May and made his commitment on May 20 after deciding late in the spring to enter the transfer portal. He arrived this summer, and the University of Louisiana coaches said he needed to lose some weight and get in better shape. However, U of L coach Scott Satterfield stated that he was “getting better every day” and that the staff anticipated him to play a significant role for the defense in the middle of the line before the team’s season opener against Syracuse.

Dez Tell, who played the most snaps of any lineman with 35, was Lole’s backup in the 31-7 defeat to Syracuse. Lole didn’t get off to a good start.

Pro Football Focus rated Lole as the No. 6 player on the defensive side of the ball after 25 games.

Lole was the No. 2 prospect available in the transfer portal at the time of his commitment, according to 247Sports.

A triceps injury prevented Lole from playing last season, but he was a productive interior pass rusher for the Sun Devils the previous three seasons, totaling 123 tackles (20 for loss), 11 sacks, and eight pass breakups. Before his arrival, Lole was already generating some NFL Draft buzz for next April.
