The Pittsburgh Steelers used all three quarterbacks in their 32-25 victory over the Seattle Seahawks, and their first-round rookie QB even led the game-winning drive in his debut.
The Steelers chose to hand the ball to their rookie quarterback after winning the coin toss. Mitch Trubisky completed 3 of 5 passes for 47 yards in a 55-yard drive, taking no time at all to lead his side to a touchdown.
Mason Rudolph was the new quarterback for the Steelers when there were just under five minutes left in the game. Steven Sims returned the punt 38 yards, and Rudolph’s first play was a sack-fumble from the left side.
George Pickens caught his second throw for a 26-yard score.
The Seahawks moved the ball 57 yards in eight plays with the help of their passing game, setting up a 33-yard field goal.
On the subsequent drive, Pittsburgh traveled 81 yards, but came to a stop at the 11 to attempt a field goal.
Seattle drove further into the other side of the field on their ensuing possession. The Steeler defense was continually pummeled by Travis Homer, and Smith finished the two-minute play with a two-yard touchdown. The Seahawks were now just one touchdown away after the extra point.
After hitting Lock on the next play, inside linebacker Mark Robinson forced a turnover that was recovered by Tuzar Skipper.
Pickett got the opportunity to direct the game-winning drive once more.
On first down, Pickett broke free of the pocket and gained four yards by using Mataeo Durant’s block. The following play, Durant received a handoff and sprinted up the middle for five yards.
Cody White caught a two-yard catch for a first down on the third down. On the following play, Pickett ran the ball up the middle before finding Tyler Vaughns off the no-huddle. Vaughns ran the ball 24 yards before diving into the end zone to score the game-winning touchdown.
