Claim: In August 2022, Conor McGregor passed away.
Rating: False

Social media users circulated allegations and screenshots in the first week of August 2022 that purported to show that the Irish mixed martial artist Conor McGregor had passed away.

The screenshots appeared to show McGregor’s brief Wikipedia entry, which appeared in the Google search results with a reported death date of either August 3 or August 4, 2022, in particular.

Those screenshots were not altered or altered digitally, and on August 5, Snopes was able to reproduce the McGregor “death date” result using a straightforward Google search that returned the phrase “Died: August 4, 2022.”

The August 2022 death dates, however, were the product of vandalism on the Spanish-language version of McGregor’s Wikipedia profile; he hadn’t passed away at that point. According to a Wikimedia Foundation representative, as stated to Snopes:

The Spanish Wikipedia entry for Conor McGregor appears to have been fixed after being vandalized yesterday to add a death date.

Throughout the first week of August, McGregor kept up his social media activity despite the unfounded death reports. On August 4, he shared a photo on Instagram in which his hand was holding a phone with a screenshot of a story from the entertainment news website Deadline from the previous day.
