Paris St-Germain (PSG) missed the chance of recording another victory in the Champions League but qualified for the knockout stages after a shocking 2-1 loss to Sporting Lisbon.
PSG were brought down by late drama and costly goalkeeping mistakes despite having the highest possession and hitting a total of 28 shots.
Sporting CP snatched the lead in the 74th minute after Luis Suárez fired into PSG’s net from a close distance.
PSG didn’t wait much before it quickly rained after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who came into the game as a substitute, struck a goal into the top corner of the net.
Sporting, which hosted PSG, finally earned the three points as Suárez scored another goal in the 90th minute when goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier spilled a long-distance attempt.
Three of Luis Enrique’s side’s goals were disallowed for fouls and offside, adding to their frustration in a game that has gone against them.
Goalkeeper Chevalier endured a difficult display, while Rui Silva, the Sporting goalkeeper, impressed.
The victory pushes Sporting to sixth position with a total of 13 points in the Champions League, sharing the same points as PSG, and marks a historic fourth consecutive home win in the Champions League.
