<p>A musician who was once nominated for Grammy awards and had collaborations with the <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/music/fugees" target="_blank" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.theguardian.com/music/fugees" rel="noreferrer noopener">Fugees</a> and the Refugee Camp All-Stars, John Forté has <a href="https://igettalk.com/2026/01/legend-behind-dilbert-scott-adams-passes-away-at-68.html" target="_blank" data-type="post" data-id="114704" rel="noreferrer noopener">passed away</a> at the age of 50.</p>



<p>The late singer was found dead at his house in Chilmark, Massachusetts, on Monday afternoon. Police reported that there were no signs of foul play, while the state examiner immediately commenced an investigation.</p>



<p>The singer was a native of New York City, and he started his music career in his early 20s as a major contributor to &#8220;The Score,&#8221; a Grammy-winning album by the Fugees, and to &#8220;The Carnival&#8221; by Wyclef.</p>



<p>He was also a gifted rapper in his lifetime and played multiple instruments. He released solo albums, which include &#8220;I John&#8221; and &#8220;Poly Sci,&#8221; on which he featured singers including Carly Simon. His final record, titled &#8220;Vessels, Angels &; Ancestors,&#8221; was released in 2021.</p>



<p>Forte was picked up in 2000 at Newark Airport on charges relating to drug trafficking and sentenced to a 14-year jail term.</p>



<p>His jail term was substituted for a lesser punishment by then-President George W. Bush after seven years due to sympathy from the public.</p>
