A serious multi-vehicle crash in downtown Gatlinburg on Sunday afternoon left six people hospitalised and shut down a major roadway.The crash happened around 4:15 p.m. in the 700 block of the Parkway, a central area in the city, according to a spokesperson for the City of Gatlinburg. Emergency response teams were immediately dispatched to the accident scene, and officials from the area swiftly shut down the roadway to control the situation.Three among the six victims were airlifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center because of the level of injuries they sustained, while the other three were moved by an available ambulance to nearby hospitals.By Monday morning, Gatlinburg officials confirmed that the Tennessee Highway Patrol had taken over the investigation. No further details have been released about the cause of the crash or the conditions of those injured.Authorities have yet to announce when the affected roadway will fully reopen or provide additional updates on the ongoing investigation.
