Content creators in China are exposing the real cost of luxury-branded items made in China in a series of videos on TikTok, which have now found their way to other social media channels. China revealed in those videos that they were the ones who manufacture most of the high-end and expensive items sold in the United States and across Europe, and the belief that they only produce inferior or fake items of known brands was not true. The Chinese TikTokers made the videos in the factories where those goods were being produced, showed off samples, and revealed that the total cost of making them was about 1/10th of the price it was sold for in the market. It exposed big brands for using cheap labor in China to produce their goods and selling them at exorbitant prices to customers. They then urged people around the world to leave those brands and buy directly from China, and they would handle logistics to the customer's home country, at a very low price too. For example, one of the videos said that a Birkin bag, which was made in China for Hermes, costs $38,000, but the actual cost of producing it was just $1,395, about 90% less. The latest exposé came following the trade/tariff war between the U.S. and China, started by Trump, after he raised and maintained the import tax from China to 125% and paused those of other countries, which he initially increased, for 90 days. Trump's cabinet said the move was a planned tactic to start a favorable dialogue with those trading countries. While some of them called to negotiate new terms, China called their bluff.
