A 16-year-old student who was stabbed on Wednesday morning during a fight at West Potomac High School in Belle Haven, Northern Virginia, has sustained a high degree of injury and was taken to the hospital.
Fairfax County police released in a statement that the incident happened at about 9:40 a.m. and involved three students of West Potomac High School. A 15-year-old has been taken to custody after being arrested by authorities and charged with malicious wounding.
Videos and photos circulating among students captured the aftermath, including a graphic scene of the injured teen lying in a hallway as staff and peers gathered around.
The victim, initially in critical condition, is now stable, according to police.
Police Chief Kevin Davis mentioned that a third student is being questioned but likely won’t face charges.
Several emergency vehicles were seen outside the school as authorities continued their investigation.
“A third person who we are questioning, we are not describing him as a person in custody because, at the moment, we don’t anticipate any criminal charges against this third person,” Davis said.
