A New York Police detective is the talk of the department after she appeared as a stripper in a rap video where she performed almost naked. The full video is below:
NYPD officer Melissa Mercado acted as a dancer in rapper S-Quire’s music video titled “Doin That” wearing nothing but a bra and g-string and twerking. Other scenes showed her dancing on a pole in a night club as the rapper threw cash at her.
Melissa Mercado has been working with the NYPD for 7 years since her employment in 2018 and is currently assigned to the Bronx Special Victims Unit as a grade 3 detective, where she earns $144,000 per annum.
Her ranchy appearance drew wide criticism and opened a debate about the lines of ethics and freedom for police officers as well as other public officeholders. Her raunchy appearance in the video was deemed as shaming the department, especially a detective’s status.
But then, some felt she did not commit a crime and did nothing wrong as she shot the video during her off-duty time. After all, “people have two jobs”!
An official statement is yet to be given by the NYPD, though sentiment on social media argues that if she goes unpunished, it would pave the way for other demoralizing acts to be freely done by officers, which would only dent the image of the police.
The “Doin That” music video was directed by the rapper himself, S-Quire, and Pitch Perfect. S-Quire claimed they never knew she was a police officer, let alone a detective, and said she was selected from an agency and acted very professional
He, however, berated the backlash the female cop was facing. He also praised her strip dancing skills and said she didn’t seem like a detective.
Thanks to the raunchy cop’s appearance, the music video is now trending.
