Video: Car Rear-Ended Into Rail Tracks Gets Crushed By Incoming Train In Utah

An incoming Utah Transit Authority (UTA) passenger train crashed into a car that was pushed into its tracks after it was hit from behind by another vehicle.

An incoming Utah Transit Authority (UTA) passenger train crashed into a white SUV that was pushed into its tracks after it was hit from behind by another vehicle.

The accident happened at 1000 South Angel St in Layton, Utah, on February 4, when the driver of the SUV stopped at a railroad crossing but the speeding pickup truck behind it failed to stop and slammed into its back.

The force of the collision pushed the SUV into the railway. The driver tried to reverse but the crossing arm which had already come down prevented it from entering the road.

In a state of shock and confusion, the driver abandoned the car and ran off.

The incoming train slammed into it, severely damaging it. The train itself took about $100,000 worth of damage as a result. Video below:

Though the driver of the car might have escaped the crash by moving forward or making a U-turn, the state of urgency and panic mode at that moment might have prevented the initiative.

The opinion was also shared by UTA public information officer Gavin Gustafson who also noted that the driver might be scared of moving forward into the next rail tracks and risking being hit by another train.
