On Friday, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that TikTok can be banned and allows it to take effect this weekend.
The court dismissed the appeal that was filed by the owners of TikTok, who argued that the application violated the First Amendment.
The court picked a side with the Congress and the administration of President Biden, who had earlier issued a warning that the ties between TikTok and China posed a great threat to the national security of the United States.
The ban placed on TikTok is scheduled to take effect from Sunday while questions on the enforcement linger, considering that there has never been an effective ban on a major social media platform in the country.
The court mentioned again that the national security concerns of the United States are more important than the acknowledgment that TikTok plays a role as a major social media platform that allows people to express themselves and connect with community for more than 170 million Americans.
