It was a good day for Jarrod Bowen, who scored his 100th league goal, helping West Ham United to earn three points after a 1-0 victory against Southampton, spoiling Ivan Juric’s first match as Southampton’s new head coach.
Southampton started well as a team under the new coach but was unable to convert their early momentum into a goal. West Ham United kept on with the tough first half after they lost both goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski and defender Max Kilman to injuries while Edson Alvarez came in as a substitute for Carlos Soler at halftime.
As the second half began, Southampton’s momentum began to reduce, and West Ham United was able to capitalize on that.
Tomas Soucek hit a header that came from Alvarez, finding Niclas Fullkrug, whose deft flick gave Bowen the opportunity to score the only goal from a close distance.
As the game progresses, Southampton continues their pressure but could not equalize, which leaves West Ham with their second victory in four games.
Southampton continues to face more challenges as they sit in the relegation zone of the Premier League with only six points after playing 18 matches and losing 14 of them this season.
