Newcastle United further dimmed Arsenal’s hope of winning the Premier League again after many years, as the team defeated the Gunners 1-0 on Saturday, helping Manchester City to cement their lead with an eight-point margin on the league’s table.

Newcastle’s Alexander Isak converted a well-calculated cross from Anthony Gordon into a goal just 12 minutes after the game started. While Arsenal edged the opposition with possession, the team struggled to equalize the game with just one shot on target throughout the over 90-minute play.

This loss has further compounded Mikel Arteta’s worries as his side managed to draw only one game in their last three matches while they lost the remaining two.

The loss is another advantage to Manchester City and Liverpool if the two teams win their matches later in the day. Manchester City will boast of an 8-point margin against Arsenal if they defeat Bournemouth, while Liverpool is expected to play against Brighton in Anfield.

Arsenal successfully became a strong contender for the title in the last two seasons, while they also had Liverpool to combat. The team started well at the beginning of this season, but recent realities are against them. The Gunners started well against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park, with Leandro Trossard almost scoring an early shot.

Newcastle sealed the victory early when Isak headed Gordon’s cross into the net. Arsenal’s forward Bukayo Saka also had an opportunity to score a header, but the Gunners could not steal an away win.
